Support Workers
(Trauma-Informed)

Role Overview

Activated Support Workers provide trauma-informed, and person-centred care to participants to support them in living a fulfilling and meaningful life in their community. They have a sound understanding of psychosocial and physical disabilities and see people in their context through a trauma-informed lens.

They work with youth, people with a disability and others to achieve their individual goals, dreams and aspirations as well as enhance the individual’s participation in all aspects of their life.

Key Duties

  • Providing trauma-informed care and support, including personal care, domestic activities, support with medication, social and community participation and skill development activities
  • Implementing programs to support participants to grow their living skills and abilities so they are more able to make decisions affecting their lives and live as independently as possible
  • Provide person-centred care, listening and responding to participants with activities and life outcomes they would like to achieve
  • Handle complex or challenging situations or behaviours calmly and rationally
  • Training / mentoring other staff in trauma-informed practice, implementing Behaviour Support Plans and around psychosocial disabilities.

About You

Essential Criteria

Applicants must outline that they;

  1. Have an understanding of, or interest in, trauma-informed care and psychosocial disabilities and youth and;
  2. Have minimum of 6 months experience within the industry (e.g. mental health, disability, aged care, individual support, community services or youth work etc) and;
  3. Have clear and effective communication skills and ability to establish a professional relationship with participant and their families and;
  4. Are flexible with their availability for work – shifts will range from mornings, afternoons, evenings and weekends and;
  5. Have a valid drivers license and comprehensive insurance and;
  6. Have their first aid certification (valid within 3 years), CPR certification (valid within the last 12 months) and;
  7. Valid police check (within the last 12 months), Working with Children Check, NDIS Worker Clearance and;
  8. Are up-to-date with their COVID vaccination status or have a valid exemption and;
  9. Are aligned with Activated Concepts values.
